Tips For Growing Japanese Iris: Plant in full sun to part sun exposure in rich, organic soil. Japanese Iris thrive in acidic soils similar to soil used to grow Rhododendrons or Azaleas. Japanese Iris produce the largest bloom size of all Iris, some reaching eight inches in diameter. Consistent water is necessary to produce large blooms. Fertilizer with an acid fertilizer twice a season and use a liquid acid fertilize during bloom time if needed. Divide every 2-3 years to keep plants blooming.
